Dating Violence is the physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional violence within a dating relationship, including stalking. It can occur in person or electronically and might occur between a current or former dating partner. Dating violence affects all age groups, but is often most thought of in connection with teens.
Healthy relationship behaviors can have a positive effect on a person’s emotional development. Unhealthy, abusive, or violent relationships can have severe consequences and short- and long-term negative effect, especially on developing teens in violent relationships. Additionally, youth who are victims of dating violence in high school are at higher risk for victimization during college. (www.cdc.gov)
One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence.
